This was a crazy week of surf, politics, and losing another friend, Allen Grondin.

Longtime readers of this blog will recognize the name Grondin. I've posted dozens of surf photos of Kevin and Kody Grondin. And a few of Leah Grondin. I just recently had pics of their entire family. Kevin, Kim, Leah, and Kody. On August 4th, 2017 Allen Grondin (Kevin's older brother) passed away. Heart attack. He was only 67 years old.

Just like that. Out of the blue. No time to say goodbye. No time to see one more sunrise. No time to see one more clear beautiful day on the ocean. No time to see one more sunset. Nobody saw this coming. Nobody.

This photo of Jane and Allen was taken at Leah Grondin's wedding.

So why is this significant to the local surf scene? Well, according to Kevin, it was Allen who first started surfing in the Grondin family. And he encouraged Kevin to try surfing. In other words, Allen was responsible for Kevin getting into surfing. And if Kevin didn't surf, there was a good chance that his son Kody would have never taken up surfing. Nor would his daughter Leah.

The impact that Allen had on the Grondin family was huge in our surf world.

Allen leaves behind his wife and two sons. A sister and brother, an amazing father Frank, who is 94 years old. Several in laws, and nephews and nieces. Poor Frank has had to bury his second child in 5 years. Life lesson 101. Life is short. Life can be unexpected. Don't take each day for granted. You never know what the day or night will bring.

Love your family and friends. Let them know what they mean to you.

I want to take a moment and thank all the talented surf artists last week who submitted their surf art. It was an impressive array of different kinds of art and styles. I hope all of you viewers got something out of it as well. From the amazing detailed paintings of Sam and Hannah Vokey to the cool wood wave carvings of Erik Zak. Judging from the many comments and likes on social media, it appeared to be quite a popular BLOG.

I'm looking forward to next year's Surf Art Blog.

So the surf came up on Monday and the water temps along with it. Though you'd never know it by what Pev was wearing. I surfed in the morning and it was super warm. No wetsuit needed.

Yet it seems most of the surfers were in their rubber suits.
Check out the size of this wave. Clearly shoulder high.

This woman was dressed more appropriately. Albeit she was on an SUP, and they rarely get wet. But if she had, she had the right suit on. That water was warm. Just ask MVF who wore a teeshirt and board shorts.

Look we only get a few days each summer where the water is that warm where you can trunk it, or wear minimal rubber. I say take advantage of those rare days. We all know what's coming.

Speaking of women. We're waiting for one good sized swell before production resumes on GRANITE GIRLS and THE RIVER WOMEN.

See the short trailer for this movie down in the movie section. I plan on making the final edit about 30-45 minutes long. It will definitely be under an hour. It's going to be available on DVD in the local surf shops. Or you can order from the Surf Free Or Die site once it's done and packaged up for distribution.

Now for Some International News
These are unfriendly times my friends.

Hey Mooch! Fogettaboutit! Though I must admit, I feel bad that Mario Cantone is out of a funny gig.

"Wait...you fired Mooch? Why? He was so handsome!"

KSM Photoshop of the Week

Crazy ass Kim Young Un and His Whacked out haircut were test firing all kinds of missiles as of late. And today the UN levied some serious sanctions on this creepy little lunatic. I swear he surrounds himself with a bunch of ass kissing fools. Now just hold on a sec here. Is that...it is! KSM on the far right. Damn you Sheik Yer Booty!

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of "Korean Wallpaper "
at Home Depot this week.
