The "JUNEASTER" that hit on June 6th, 2017. Funerals, Addiction, Graduations, Super Bowl Rings, Adam West checks out, and The Berardinis make it official.

As fast as the sun came out the week before, it was equally as fast at disappearing. June 6th, 2017 the anniversary of the landing at Normandy France, the weather got nasty again. And once again, the AC units went off and the heat went back on. Think I'm kidding? I'm not. We had gone from 96 degrees to 45 degrees. That's the AC machines and Heating systems battling it out for the king of the season. The question is, just what season is this? Nobody seems to know. I sure as hell don't.

The Marines below stood in a driving cold rain without flinching a single digit.

I do know that after we left this impressive Military Funeral of our dear friend Col. Paul Lessard USMC Retired, the surf came up.

There was a bona fide Nor'easter slamming into the seacoast region. This photo above was taken a couple of hours after the funeral. Ryan McGill had a short daylight window when he literally ran out to catch a few.

The surf was a solid head high to overhead on the sets. And it hung around for days on end. Tuesday the 6th to Saturday the 10th. The conditions were all over the place, but the swell was pulsing. And all the points, reefs, and beachbreaks were lit up all over the New England shores.

There's a gallery for all four days down in the photo section.

June 9th marked the 3rd anniversary of the sudden passing of my very talented nephew. Michael Colby pictured here on the far left, with his two cousins Max, Jesse, and myself at Gunstock in 2003. He died of a heroin overdose. In the 3 years since his passing there have been thousands of young men and women all over this country succumbing to opioid addiction.

If you, or someone you know, is addicted to drugs, there is hope.

The problem with addiction is not only with those who OD, it's the loved ones that are left behind. There is a hole that can never be filled when you lose someone to addiction. I know without any hesitation, that if my nephew knew the pain that his passing caused his mother, and all of his family and friends, there's no way he would have continued to use drugs. I know he loved his mother and family enough to avoid causing that kind of raw grief.

Here he is with his cousins at my late mother's 80th birthday party.
They all have a void in their lives because of Michael's addiction.
Don't destroy your family. Don't be that selfish to needing a high, to allow your family to continue to suffer. There is hope. There is a cure. But YOU need to be the one to step up and go through the suffering to get back to where you once belonged. Call it tough love if you want. I'm calling it a plea, from the voices that have yet to suffer.

Rest In Peace Michael. Sleep easy tonight.

June 9th of this past week was also a day of celebration. Never mind that it was Day 3 of the JUNEASTER, it was also the day that many local Surfers graduated from High School. Kai Nichols got in a good fun surf with his dad Lenny before he had to don the graduation gown and cap.

I know how proud Lenny is of Kai, and with good reason. The kid is squared away and destined for good things in his life. On a personal note, I have known Kai since he was first born. I can vividly remember carrying him in my arms at 10th street while he was in diapers. Now, he could carry me.

all kidding aside, we have all watched this young grom grow up before our very eyes and become a man. And not just any kind of man, but a special person. He's got a head on his shoulders that any parent and sibling would be proud of. He's smart, articulate, quiet and confident. This boy is going places. Whether it's in his surfing (and trust me, he's capable of surfing with the wolf pack) or furthering his academics. Kai is going places.

Congrats Kainalu Nichols. And to his proud parents and siblings.

Back to the week of waves. Sam Vokey sent this pic in of his wife Hannah surfing the remnants of the JUNEASTER. Hannah is going to be one of the GRANITE GIRLS in the movie. Ive been getting some good footage of the girls this last week or two. I think people are going to be surprised at the
talent pool of women surfers here in the Northeast.

Looking forward to this summer for the Mid August release!

This week's Ed's corner pic is clearly a winter pic. The winter of 2014 to be exact. It's no secret that ed loved this angle. I can still picture him in my mind. Hunched over, legs spread apart, dressed in black, and focusing on that bowl. Photo by Ed O'Connell

Now for Some More Of My Weekly Global Observances
The haters are gonna hate this pic. Ha! Too bad. Mr Tom Brady showing off his FIVE SUPERBOWL RINGS! That's right kids. 5 Rings! And the good ole boys in Vegas have the Patriots winning it again this year. I'm not joking about building a wall around New England. If the pats when another this year? Them haters are coming for sure. Pitchforks and torches. Help us Mr President. Don't let the haters get us.

I know what what you're were thinking. How could someone this handsome be that talented in the NFL? He's got the beautiful wife and kids. He lives in a mansion that could house the whole New England Patriots football team. Plus he's 40 years old and he appears to be able to keep playing for another 5 years. No wonder they hate us.

Batman dies and leaves Boy Wonder (Burt Ward) wondering what the hell he's gonna do now. Adam West was 89 years old. I have to admit, I was a big fan of the original batman series on TV. It was a hoot. So tongue and cheek, and so freaking entertaining.

The Batman movies were all good, but they couldn't really hold a candle to this show and this guy. The fight scenes were classic.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
OK, so The Batman villains in the big block buster movies were all good, but the villains in the original series were the BEST. Catwoman, The Riddler, The Penguin, and the Joker. But wait, who's that in the background? What villain could that be? Why it's that Old Crusty Dog KSM! I had forgotten he had auditioned for the part of The Stinkbutt!
The producers didn't like it when he kept yelling "Allah Arkbar!" Every time he attacked Batman. So he never made the series.

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of Old Batman Comics at
Home Depot this week.

Check this out! THIS THURSDAY In Hampton!

Prayers and positive thoughts to Erica Nardone's recovery.

Prayers and positive thoughts to surfer Jason Kooken who suffered
a spinal cord injury in New Jersey last month.

STOP THE PRESSES! THIS JUST IN! Tony and Shelly are Gonna Get hitched! We were all at a dinner party last night at Tony's when Shelly shared the news with us.

Check out that Ring! Looks like one of the Ring Pops from Surf Family Robinson! I mean come on! That is one serious Rock! I mean Plastic.

Oh it's love alright! What GREAT News! We are all so stoked!

Truth be told, Kim and Cory have been calling these two The Berardinis for the last year or so. Maybe they finally heard them.
It will be great to make it official. When we all vacation together in PR Tony and Shelly had to sleep in separate rooms. Now that they're engaged, we might be able to ease up on their sinful sleeping arrangements in Puerto Rico. Praise the Lord Baby Jesus!

(Below) I was luck to be able to say that I grew up surfing during the time where me ands my friends made some very cool surf discoveries. This was one of those places. I really had nothing to do with this particular spot. But I did get to be one of the first to surf it here. It is now a zoo out there whenever it breaks. Like I said, I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. I used to call it Monkey Cove. Photo by Jeff Crawford

My first ever attempt at using a Drone. I guess I need one. Surfer is "Pev" shot in NH on June 2nd, 2017

MOTHER'S DAY SWELL May 14-15-16-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. This is the web edit for the 3 Day Mother's Day Swell. It never really got bigger than head high. And it rained the first two days. Still, it was surf, and beggars can't be choosers now can we. I did the edit today after hearing about the death Chris Cornell, lead singer for Soundgarden. He had a great voice. It's ironic because I was looking for the right song to go with this edit. And I believe I found it with Black Hole Sun. The surfers that I can remember are: Kai Nichols, Tom Hay, Andy Elliott, Mikey Moran, Skip Brunette, Erik Zak, Kody Grondin, Chris Stelman, Max Fatello, Mikey Evans, and a handful I couldn't ID. This is for all the mothers. past, present, and future. And it's in memory of Chris Cornell.

The Forgotten Go Pro Footage 2014-2016 Part 1
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

This is a series of web edits that was all shot on my old GoPro. How old? Well it's the HERO II. So that's 3 GoPros ago. Did I just write that? I guess I did. Any way, this first edit was shot on the last day of Summer in 2014. The surfers are (that I can remember) : Perry Reynolds, Kai Nichols, Lenny Nichols, Mike Rosa, Zach Bru, Bryan Johnson, Kyle Linesman, Kenny Linseman, and a bunch of others. *You might want to take some Dramamine before watching this. It's all water shots, so no tripods were used. Music is by Trentemoller and Grenier.

The Forgotten GoPro Footage Part II 2014-2016 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

More of the GoPro footage I had lying around. It's pretty much small wall footage. Though, it is noteworthy a the clips of Kevin Grondin were all shot on his birthday last Jun 23d, 2016. The rest is mostly empty waves with Mackey getting a few. The real cool thing about this web edit is. 50 years ago today, May 12th, 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their debut LP. This song was on that record. And I remember it all like it was yesterday. Funny thing is, the song is as current today as it was 50 years ago. Do check it out.
