The last October Swell "The SOU'EASTER."
The 242nd USMC Birthday, Veterans Day, and the final chapter in the coward/traitor Bowe Bergdahl case.
Also Sam Vokey's Art Show on Newbury Street in Boston.

This image above is from my latest video edit featured in this week's blog. That's Kody Grondin in the "darkroom". The waves from this particular swell came from a nasty "Sou'easter" that blew all night long. They were logging in wind gusts up to 70-75mph. That's hurricane force winds.

Trees came down on buildings and vehicles, there were thousands without power. *Though we really can't complain after seeing all the damage from the last few hurricanes. But on a local level, it was pretty intense.

But the surf from this Sou'easter? Whoa.

Yes that's as hollow as it looks, and as dangerous as it appears too.

There are some waves in my video that appear to be three times overhead. There are plenty of double overhead waves, and the wind and the surf was in a word, "spectacular!"Of course, the surfing was equally impressive.

This looks like Kody again. He was just one of the many standouts this day. There are so many good waves and great rides that I went against the latest 1-4 minute trend in video editing, and instead opted for a more lengthy feature. In other words, you will see complete rides.

I mean when we are all standing around and watching the surf. We don't just see glimpses of rides, we see it all. And that's what I tried to show in the SOU'EASTER video.

This was one hell of a swell. And it was a nice way to end October.

There are pics from several other photographers in this week's blog.

Mindy Bocko (see above), David Schultz, and William Leibundgut. You need to go through all the galleries to really get a taste of what we all had this week.

Happy 242nd Birthday to my Marine brothers and sisters. Though, it's a bittersweet celebration again this year. Three of my favorite Marines have since passed on. SSGT George Masten Korea-Vietnam, Col. Paul Lessard, Korea Vietnam, and SGT Jerry McConnell WWII (Guadalcanal). I miss those guys. November 10th, 1775 was the birth of the Marine Corps.

The very next day is of course Veterans Day. November 11th, 2017.

This photo is so special to me. It was taken by my then 7yr old son Max on Veterans Day in 1998. That's my late father and me at our old family home. Max is standing as he took this photo. Classic. My dad has his arm around me too. Seems like yesterday.

Veteran's Day is the ONE day where you can actually say "Thank you for your service." To any living veteran. No matter where they served and what they did. If you have a veteran in your family, or have a friend who is a vet, call them and thank them. This is the day Veteran's Day. Not Memorial Day. Happy Veterans' Day to all the Vets in my family. John Rastl, Mike Baldarssari, Joe Marengi, and David Fatello. *And a special thanks to the women behind the scenes who served right along side of these men. Judith, JoEllen, and Cory.

This week's Ed's corner pic is from November 11th, 2011. Ed and I were shooting at the wall this day. 11-11-11. Ed as most of you know, was an ARMY Medic in Vietnam. He saved a lot of young grunts from dying in 68-69. He was not as outspoken about his service as I am, but we shared many a good laugh about Vietnam, and a few tears as well. The irony of this pic is, Tony Berardini is getting married to Shelly Pitman on November 11th, 2017 on the 11th hour. And Hannah Vokey is in this week's blog because of her husband Sam's Art Show in Boston. Small world, but I'd hate to have to paint it. Happy V'Day Ed.

The Sam Vokey Art Show of "Water and Light" in Boston was and is great. Sam is a local surfer who is a super talented artist. Who just so happens to be married to an equally talented surfer/artist Hannah Vokey. A bunch of us went into Boston yesterday to see his opening. It was great.

His paintings are so incredibly detailed that they look like photos.

Sam and Hannah and their Hampton surf connection.

His show will be open until December 2nd. It's worth the trip.

Now for Some International News

The one vet you probably shouldn't thank this year is the BRANDED FOR LIFE coward Bowe Bergdahl. He pleaded guilty to deserting his post and misbehavior before the enemy. He walked into the courtroom a SGT and walked out a PVT with a DISHONORABLE Discharge.

A BLACK MARK for the rest of his life. He avoided any prison time, unless of course you consider his time held captive by the BRUTAL Taliban. He was tortured and chained to his bed and never saw the light of day for months at a time. He was also put in a cage as well. He caused the severe wounds of two servicemen who went searching for him.

One a NAVY SEAL James Hatch was wounded so bad he had to retire. He suffers to this day. He also lost his dog REMCO during that same firefight searching for Bergdahl. The Dog was killed by the Taliban. I'm a dog lover. Killing a dog is as bad as killing a human. Most dog owners would agree. Most, but not all.

Bergdahl is in my honest opinion, a coward and a traitor. And I don't need TRUMP telling me that. I've though that since the day Obama released those 6 Terrorists in exchange for this loser.
Those released Terrorists are back out there killing innocent civilians and US Service men and women. That was a bad deal.
A BRANDED COWARD and TRAITOR For the rest of his life.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
So these are the six terrorists who are FREE along with our boy KSM (who is NOT FREE) but none the less, he's as happy as a pig in shit. Oh, I'm sorry, did I mention swine? my bad NOT!

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of Pork Chops at Home Depot this week.

The SOU'EASTER October 30th, 2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The wind howled all night. Gusts up to 70-75mph. hurricane force winds. Out of the south. Round these parts we call 'em "Sou'easters" like their brethren "Nor'easters" they can pack a wallop. Trees came down on homes and vehicles. We lost power. In fact, some are still without power. I know, we can't really complain knowing what's happening (still) in Puerto Rico. But, schools and businesses were forced to close. But the surf? Oh right, the surf. That was in a word INSANE. Double OH and bigger on the sets. Big howling offshore barrels. The crew was out and they were slaying the giants all day long. I shot hours worth of video, and honestly? This is not one of those quick 3-4 minute web edits. This is close to my old movies. You know, where you can actually watch an entire ride.

The music fits. Tull, Beatles, Doors, and the original NOR'EASTERS doing "Jet Stream". I hope you like it. Oh and please, watch this on a lap top or a desktop. Them smart ass phones are not big enough in my honest opinion. Enjoy my friends.

GRANITE GIRLS Trailer II 10-19-17 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

This is the second trailer for the upcoming GRANITE GIRLS and The River Women movie. These are all new clips. I have over 25 women appearing in the final cut. The trailers are too short to have them all in. So, having said that, the music for this trailer is by QWILL. I had to push back the release to get some additional footage. We're now looking at anywhere from the last week in November to the week before Channakuh and Christmas. And what a lovely Holiday present this DVD will make. I've been having fun putting this together. And I think most of the women are really looking forward to the release. *There will be a Premiere screening prior to the movie going to DVD. I'll keep you all posted on that date and location.

MARIA from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Hurricane MARIA in New England. It's hard to get excited about a swell from a storm that devastated Puerto Rico. Lets face it, all East Coasters love PR. It's our Go To place for Tropical dream waves. The surf from Maria was well worth the travel woes. It's all New England Surfers. The music is by my old band SEMPER FI and the title of the song that I wrote in 1983 is...MARIA. I know ironic huh? David Robinson from The CARS produced the song. I also included a couple of tunes from Tom Petty. I loved that man and his music. So sad. If any of you want to help out the people of Puerto Rico contact the AMERICAN RED CROSS. Thanks.

JOSE September 20th to September 24th, 2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

TS Jose came to town and just got ugly on us. Rain and onshore winds, with glimpses of glass, and sun. But mostly Jose was ugly and dirty. Nothing wrong with ugly, as long as there is some size and entertainment. And there was all of that and then some. The surfers are the local knowns and unknowns. But the music? The VINNY band music was recorded in 1983. Three songs off of our OLAS DE SEXO LP produced by David Robinson of The CARS. I wrote all the songs on the LP. The songs in this video are: "WAVES" "I NEVER SAW YOU" and "HERE'S WHERE I GET OFF" the last song is probably the best song I ever wrote. And I've written a few hundred. The VINNY band included my brother Johnny Fatello guitar, Greg Nesto bass, Javier Pico Keyboards, and Peter Goutzos drums. I hope you like both the video and the soundtrack. Come on MARIA!!!!!

AUGEASTER 8-30-31-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

With all the recent Hurricane activity as of late I had put this footage on the back burner. It's that end of August Nor'easter that we had on the 30th and 31st of August. I was surprised when doing the edit at just how good the waves were that swell. There's some really good surf in this edit. It's all local. Both the talent and the surf. I used the cool Beautiful People sampling Hendrix tunes. And once again, it all flows.

I'll be busy shooting JOSE and MARIA in the next few days, meanwhile, take
a short trip back to last month and enjoy AUGEASTER.

IRMA 9-9-17 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Me and the newest Inductee into the "East Coast Hall Of Fame" Kevin F. Grondin went south to meet up with the first swell from Hurricane IRMA.
The water was warm and green, and the boys were all over it. The surfers that I know who appear in this film are: Kevin Grondin, Kody Grondin, Robbie Goodwin, Sam, Liam, Jared Veltsos, Max Fatello, and Jesse Gould. The music is by my old band SEMPER FI and it was recorded back in 1986 on a 4-track machine in our rehearsal place. The songs are GIMME SHELTER and DON'T GIVE UP (an original song I wrote).

The musicians in this version of Semper Fi are :Ralph Fatello guitar and lead vocals, Rich Appel bass and backing vocals, Eric Brown drums and backing vocals, and Greg Lyons keyboards.
